PES 14: Step in the right direction?
Another year, another pes, but this time with an entirely different engine. Many PES fans were anticipating what this new installment of the widely criticized football franchise was going to bring to the plate. But just what exactly did it bring? Is it going in the right direction?
First of all, let's start with gameplay. Pro evolution's gameplay is great, just great. The players movements have been greatly worked on and the ball physics seems more legit than it did in the previous games. However, I just like to point out that the A.I response is very disappointing. I can't stand how retarded players look sometimes when the ball reaches near them and they just stand there like that's not the ball they expected to see. I like the whole jostling thing though, it feels great getting your shirt pulled by another player as it is done in the real game.
Let's go to graphics. Firstly, the menu sucks as always. Why don't Konami focus on presentation first?? I've seen Atari games with better menus than Pes 14. Most players look really realistic, however when I say 'most' I mean like 170 out of a possible 9000 players, Raphael looks like a zebra, Torres looks like a Teen girl who loves Twilight and listens to One Direction and Wayne Rooney is....well Wayne Rooney. The fans in the stadium are surprisingly good but the ambience sucks, like big time. The football jerseys not being attached to the players was a good idea, only problem is they flap around too much, especially on the unlicensed teams and De Gea.
Commentary is as usual, Pes like. Are Jim Begin and Jon Champion the cheapest commentators around or what? There's no other reason I could think of for Pes to stick with them for like 4 years or so. They only have like 100 words to say and the reaction they give when you score a goal is similar to my reaction when I 1st played Singularity.
New game modes? You wish. The master league isn't as good as it was, Become legend is fun but not as fun as it was in 12, league mode returns and blah blah blah.
Despite a this, (and the fact that the games feels unfinished) PES 2014 is a really fun game to play, just make sure to get patches or data packs, because they improve the games greatly. I think it's a step in the right direction and definitely looks promising mainly due to the fact that they're now focusing on what happens on the pitch and not what celebration Ronaldo did against AC Milan. Errors are expected in this game but that's mainly due to switching to a new more advanced engine which is more powerful than this game makes it seem. All Konami need to do is fire the guy in charge of the GUI, get new commentators, hire more artists for player faces and try to do stuff on time. Seriously, the game is realised after a year, what do they do all this time?? It definitely won't challenge FIFA unfortunately but still has potential to gain some new fans.
This is my opinion, Take my Feel.
